Harry White, President of the Society for Musicology in Ireland, here provides a special Foreword for the inauguration of the present journal.

Author Biography

Harry White

Harry White is Professor of Music at University College Dublin and President of the Society for Musicology in Ireland. He was recently appointed Government of Ireland Senior Research Fellow in the Humanities in order to write a study of music and the Irish literary imagination. His most recent book is The Progress of Music in Ireland (Dublin, 2005) and he is currently completing a monograph on concepts of authority and autonomy in the European musical imagination, 1700-1750.
